About this website

Smokefree Schools/Kura Auahi Kore is a website run by the Health Sponsorship Council (HSC) to provide:

  • information, ideas and resources to helps schools plan towards actively promoting smokefree behaviours and attitudes to students, whānau and the wider school community.
  • guidance on how to strengthen protective factors that help students remain smokefree.
  • quitting information.

It has been built in consultation with the National Smokefree/Auahi Kore Schools Working Group.

Current members include representatives from:

  • The Health Sponsorship Council
  • The Ministry of Health
  • Canterbury District Health Board
  • Health Promoting Schools.
  • National Pacific Tobacco Control (National Heart Foundation)
  • Te Akatea, NZ Maori Principal's Association

In addition the group has a curriculum specialist as a member. A wider advisory includes ASH, the Cancer Society, Te Hotu Manawa Maori and the Smokefree Coalition.
